I remember years ago when I when I was doing landscape construction back East, Massachusetts, right at a college. I was working on this this project and we're building this these steps out of out of granite in about 5, 600 lb plus each and you never start steps from top bottom. You know why?

It doesn't work. It's not very good. In fact, there's something spiritual about it because your foundation is most important and so as we're doing this we're setting the steps. We have stone tweet of stoned us back East you guys use decomposed Granite this yellow stuff or whatever something something different. But anyway, we used to send us whatever you pack it and you see such a stone's you got a level it and then you such a stone down you might get three or four in and then realize that one of them's unloved when you got to go back and you got to rework it. It's it's a pain you working with the backhoe and moving around. But anyway, when you get the finished product, it's amazing. When you get to the top of the foundation get to the top. It's pretty amazing and just seen what it looks like. I have any pictures but it's it's different than than the granites out here. It's really clean clean looking butt.

Where we're at right now in the Beatitudes just kind of kind of work. We've worked through the foundational parts of The Sermon on the Mount so to speak.

Let me get in here. It's it's important that you realize we're persecute on every side of times, but we're not abandoned by God. The one who holds Us in the spinal Beatitudes, the climax of all the rest should spur us on to live for Christ all the more. So this it just reminded me as I'm as working different projects. How many feet have you built anyting it helps to have a plan write somewhat? Whatever you call it. Right? Most of us are Jack of all trades master of absolutely none. Right and I'm probably a lot lower on that scale than most people but but we have to start with a plan or Foundation of something. Otherwise, we really where it's not going to turn out the great in the end. And so does beatitude is at the top of all the other ones as it were but it's not so much at the top because it's more important.

But verses 10 through 12, they're putting into practice the preceding verses 3 through 9. So we can take a minute to kind of look back on the Beatitudes refresh our memories. I guess we're going to review them. So let's let's look at all those ATD. I put a word search on the back of the Bolton. So you guys can stay busy with that because I know if you have ADD you're doing that but you're also listening to it. So Matthew 5 1 through 9 or going to read this together.

It starts saying now when Jesus saw the crowds he went up on a Mountainside and sat down his disciples came to him and he began to teach them. So he's surrounded by by Believers. He's surrounded by disciples. He said in verse 3 blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. You can follow Nana on the bulletin inserts to if you're pretty quick verse for blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth. Verse 6 blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled? Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy west of the pure in heart for they will see God.

If you look back on on these on these Beatitudes these attitudes that we're supposed to have. And each one of them start with the word blessed or blessed blessed. The Bible uses the word blessed around 530 X Amor depend on the translation. 50% of that time in the New Testament the word blessed refers to happiness. 75% of the time in the Old Testament. It refers to being filled with strength as a gift or surrendering.

So I put those two percentages together and compiled somewhat of a a summary a definition of blessed and it's not Webster's definition by any means. But what I wrote down just thinking through it is to be happy or blessed is to surrender ourselves unto God in order to be filled by his strength and Gifts in all their many facets. The Beatitudes are filled with many different gifts and strengths that God offers us. Would you agree?

Sorry to keep all this in mind as we look at the the our content today with which is Matthew 5 10 through 12.

Some of us may before we get into this you may we may have actually read most of the Beatitudes be kind of neglected 10 to 12 because we don't like to talk about persecution. But if we're blessed and if the verse 3 blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven we come with a since before the war become of the sense of where we're just spiritually bankrupt. Without Really realizing they were nothing apart from God

west of those who mourn that we actually we need to mourn over our sins so that we can move past it and give it to the Lord and be comforted by him. Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the wind the Earth we come before God with a sense of humbleness a sense of meekness. Right realizing that he is God and we're not.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness if we can be poor in spirit if we can mourn before the Lord over our sin and trust him if we can become Meek, then we begin to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Then we understand what that means and righteousness is in right standing with God. We're seeking God over our will

And that will fill us blessed are the merciful for they will be shown Mercy. We often think that we're just going to get Mercy if we if we show our concept of Mercy, but doesn't work that way because first we have to understand that we were first shown Mercy by God to ourselves unless we understand that we're never going to be able to be merciful to other people.

Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God member and he's and his sermon on this with the ping pong balls. I pour water in the more that you are filled by God all the fears and lies from the enemy came out of our Lives to ping pong balls Rose from the water there soon. There was nothing in there just filled by by Water by God's presence gives it give us a picture of that that when we feel ourselves or pure in heart, there's no room for Satan to enter. Number blessed are the peacemakers for they be called children of God. If you missed the best all of these there you can go on a website FCC RV. Org. You can listen to all the all the past sermons, but the last week's blessed are the peacemakers to be called children of God. Memory said that piece peacemakers or not peacekeepers is a difference because we might have a love for peace. We might love the idea of Peace, but we actually don't pursue peace because we often neglect the things that we need to confront in our lives in order to be peacemakers.

Never going to look at Matthew 5 10 to 12. Now that we've kind of understood a lot of the preceding Beatitudes. We're going to get our contacts today. So it's do that Matthew 5 10 through 12. Does blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness? For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in Heaven from the same way. They persecuted the prophets who are before you and I don't know about you but I am I version it says to rejoice and be glad because of persecution anybody else that you just skip over that or because oftentimes I'm not very rejoiceful. I'm not I'm not glad because of persecute. Why would I be are you guys reading this you guys have a different version than me or is this like Why would I even rejoice and be glad over that? Blessed are you when people insult you? It's not fun being insulted is it? Especially our character with some insults our wife. Right or husband. Then we go for blood will mess around we go for the throat go for the jugular.

We leave church is over this stuff.

Persecute you falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. collect to be gossiped about nobody does right. We did a pretty good job and gossiping about people.

Who say all kinds of evil against us because of me did you know this? I don't know if it's a statistic whatever but if we live with integrity. If we live with a noble character if we live with a sense of dignity and we're following the lord. It's really hard for people to believe other people when they say things against you. It is proving it is we're not perfect. But when we live with Integrity when we focus on this Beatitudes, it's really hard for somebody to pick on us. Might be easy but it doesn't stand just like the ping pong balls. They rise to the surface and the Never penetrate below because we know if we understand is Beatitudes. Our identity is not in what people say, our identity is not in in lies or gossip or slander even persecution to death. Our identity is in Christ.

Rejoice and be glad for all this stuff.

How can we possibly be glad and rejoice for persecution insults our gossip against us we look at. You want a large-scale? I think we automatically at your first world problems. We get persecuted on the playground or whatever, but there's people being killed over over God's word and other other countries, there's people being being flogged. There's people getting ripped out of their house churches in different places of the world. Did you know if you go back to statistics, but what I do know, is that when when there is a when there is persecution like China for instance, we read all you can't do anything in China. You can't read your Bible. Did you know that the church is growing so fast in China because in this persecution that the government is getting scared in the starting to try to censor this stuff because they know they can't do anything about it that it's going to continue to to grow and grow and grow. I mean, it's amazing. What's happening China? These pastors are actually following a lot of pastors if they're doing it right with Integrity there following the laws in China that you can still do quite a bit of stuff in Bible studies. Not every part of China is forcing you to go underneath their their laws of the rules, but where there's persecution there's growth

We often miss that because when we think persecution or insults are gossiping, everything is caving in us. We automatically just think that we're stagnant. We're not growing. We're not going anywhere like what yo, But we forget that when we were in that place that that when we are fully trust in God because of everything around us where the perfect place. Because we're so dependent on the Lord. Amen.

True Believers should be easy to rejoice and be glad because Jesus went to the cross for us know it was hard. He was obedient unto death because he saw the greater plan. God's plan is we live our lives or just the stuff that we allow grabbed hold of us. And how we've been wrong persecuted treated differently because Believers we should never have entitlement nine set.

Oftentimes like all I should be treated this way. I know. What was me, right? I should just be able to live my life and peace and love and I never have any problems at all.

I give my heart to the Lord right to think should be perfect. What does Jesus say about this stuff? Let's read in John 15:18.

If the world hates you keep in mind that it hated me first. to say next

Matthew 5:44, but I tell you love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Luke 6:22 blessed are you when people hate you when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name is evil because of the son of man.

John 15:9 through 19 through 22 the world it is it would love you as its own as it is you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

Remember what I told you a servant is not greater than his master if they persecuted me they will persecute you also if they obeyed by teaching they will obey up go back one real quick. They will be yours. Also. Can I can go to next one? Matthew 10:22, you will be hated by everyone because of me good news, right? But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

We could go on there's a lot more versus on the stuff. Jesus saying this stuff. So do we get a sense that we're safe?

No, right. We had this entitlement mindset like where we put her heart and we put our trust in Christ. So everything will be perfect when Christ says the opposite. right So why we surprised when persecution comes our way why we surprised when when when gossip comes our way when were insulted when people say false things against it because of our faith. But we are.

Or we could go on let's look at 2 math or John 16:33.

I've told you these things so that in me you may have peace in this world. You will have trouble. For what? Take heart go back one. But take heart I have overcome the world. If there's one verse that we can remember is that Jesus doesn't just He lays it down.

But the good news is even greater than the bad news, right? We will be persecuted. We will have troubles James will have trials and tribulations and of many kinds. And the enemy knows each one of us really well. He knows exactly what's going to set us off.

He knows how we're going to react. In Austintown, we we give the enemy way more credit than we give God. Because we fall back into the same sin over and over and over again. We forget this that Jesus said I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace in this world. You will have trouble but take heart I have overcome the world.

We're going to look at ax8 together Rita. Look at the progression of Paul's life and many of us might be familiar with us. But just as it as an example, we're going to look at the progression of of Sol's. Paul but you saw before it says install approved of their killing killing him. This is talking about Stephen stoning on that day and Steven was a follower of Christ. This is in the early church. Is how the early church began? On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

Godly men buried Steven and more deeply for him. But Saul began to destroy the church. This is Paul Saul going from house to house. He dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

Be there. So this gives us an idea of who Paul was who saw who saw was he was dragging people out. He was person who is doing the persecuting.

Let's read about his conversion in Acts 9 if you have your Bibles, I don't have it up here. But if you have your Bibles, you can follow along with me.

Meanwhile saw was still breathing and murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest and ask him for letters to the synagogue in Damascus so that if he found any there who belonged to the way falling the Lord whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem as he near Damascus on his journey suddenly light from Heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and Heard a Voice say to him Saul Saul. Why do you persecute me? Who are you Lord saw last? I am Jesus who you're persecuting he replied and I'll get up and go into the City and you will and you will be told what to do what you must do. The mint Robin was Saul stood there speechless they heard the sound but nothing but did not see anyone saw got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes, he could see nothing. So they let him by hand. It's a Damascus for three days. He was blind. It did not eat or drink anything in Damascus. There was a disciple named ananias.

And the rest of the story goes in and I supposed to be in to the Lord the Lord healed him of his of his blindness and Saul who became Paul never look back.

Maybe that's somewhat of a story of our own lives for some of us. So was the one doing the persecuting and later gave his heart to the Lord had an encounter with the Lord and gave his heart to the Lord and change completely completely right because in the beginning of Acts he was doing what He was dragging people off his persecuting people and now he's a completely different person how many people in this room have been changed because of because of Christ. 2nd Corinthians 4. This is the same guy. Let's look at 2nd Corinthians 4 get your Bibles out. You can use the ones in front of the fuse if you have to 2nd Corinthians 4. Paul's writing to the church at Corinth Any rights therefore since through God's mercy, we have this ministry. We do not lose heart. Rather we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not use deception nor do we distort the word of God on the contrary by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every one's conscious in the sight of God. And even in Our Gospel is veiled is veiled to those who are perishing the god of the sage Satan has blinded the minds of unbelievers. So they cannot see the light of the Gospel that displays the glory of Christ who is in the image of God verse 5 for what we preach is not ourselves, but Christ Jesus or Jesus Christ as Lord and our souls as your servants for Jesus's sake forgot who said let light shine out of Darkness made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ verse 7, we have this treasure in Jars of Clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side but not Crushed perplexed but not in despair persecuted but not abandoned struck down but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive or always being given over to death for Jesus sake so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. So then death is at work in us but life. Is it working you a man? Keep going verse 13 it is written. I believe therefore I have spoken since we have that same Spirit of faith. We also believe in there for speak because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from Death who will also raised us with Jesus and present us with you to himself all this is for your benefit to the great does reaching more more people may cause Thanksgiving overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. You see that that theme do not lose heart. What is he saying 16 though outwardly. We are wasting away yet inwardly. We're being renewed day by day bro light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So what do we do? What street is together if you got your Bible verse 18, so we fix our eyes not on what is seen But on what is Since what is seen is? But what is unseen is? Did you notice the transition from Death to life? We carry that in our body that Jesus came right? We're looking at the season that he came is God and man to the surf. That he was perfect that he was sinless but he went through everything that we went through. Sometimes you treat him. Like he has no idea what we went through right? But he's just got his no idea what I'm going through what I've gone through what I'm going through in life. But it does because if it was just a man that died on that cross I did good deed right sounds good gesture for somebody died on the cross, but there's no way he cover our sins. And if it was God that died on that cross so far beyond us. That's that's great. That's awesome. But he would never understand because he was never a man. But because God sent his son Jesus died in the cross. He was with God and man. He came down on Earth in the Incarnation is the is a fancy word for it when he came God in flesh among us that he suffered like us he was persecuted like us Is every reason to lose heart at times?

If there's any way take it away and take this cup from me, right if there is any other way, but you know what there was no other way, you know, why?

Anybody else's got a man stand up. Nobody else was right. He was both God and man he knew what he had to do because he knew.

Then he fixed his eyes and what is Isis so we fix our eyes not on what is seen But on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal he focused on the Eternal aspect of things. He focused on the glory of his father. And he focused on us.

One of my favorite passages in in the New Testament when my life verse is kind of has always been full of being 3, so let's look at that together flipping 3 verse 4 through 14.

This is Paul talking about how he doesn't have confidence in in the flesh but have confidence on on Christ.

Says I'm at on the second half of verse for if someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh. I have more.

Circumcised on the eighth day is going through his track record of all the things he's at and circumcised. He's a good Jew circumcised on the eighth day of the people of Israel of The Tribe of Benjamin a Hebrew of Hebrews in regards to the law a Pharisee S40 persecuting the church as a righteousness based on the wall Vault list. Swiss made his case places, but whatever we're games to me. I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord for whose sake I've lost all things. I consider them garbage.

She know how you get past sins that you continue to commit over and over again. You hate them. You can send them garbage.

If we just continue taking my candy nothing's going to change. You have to be bitter and your sin.

Diamond King Christ and be found in him not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the wall. But that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. Is what his desires are his prayer. I want to know Christ. Yes to know the power between the participation in the sufferings becoming like him in his death. And so somehow it taken to the resurrection from the dead not that I have already attained all this or have already arrived at my goal. But I press on to take hold of that which is Christ Jesus Took a hold of me. brothers and sisters listen up I don't consider myself yet have taken hold of it. But one thing I do forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus if we're in a persecuted where persecution for a trials and patient's what do we do? We often get our eyes off of Christ. What are we supposed to do fix our eyes on Christ who in Hebrew says is the author and Perfecter of our faith.

as we look at

we look at God can change the heart of Pauly can change you if if God can use somebody like me to come up and in front of a Pulpit who never ever that the day was set in Granite steps on his landscape job never think a million years. He'd actually be here in front of you scared out of his mind sharing God's word.

But it says in verse 10 of Matthew 5 blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven blessed are you when people insult you persecute the faucet say all kinds of evil against you because of me rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven for the same way. They persecuted the prophets who were before you there's all kind of speculation of what these rewards are right we can we can just like do we can we can get in the God's word and we can start making a list. It could be crowns of gold. It could be all kinds of juuls. It could be it could be whatever but you know what the greatest reward is. We're not going to have any suffering. We're not going to deal with persecution. We're not going to be had the flu for two months straight. a man

Many apples have been sick right illnesses chronic illnesses. Oftentimes we we live in those in those those that mindset that this is just the way it's going to be. Woe is me, right? We get our our our eyes so far from Christ. That we make that very illness or sin or whatever it Whatever It Is fill in the blank. our God

so I just have a question then.

Reverse 10 says blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. We know what righteousness is. But what is pursuing righteousness actually look like

I would offer a few things and I guess the first is that it's confronting with love but not getting even it's being a peacemaker. This may be recapping on some of the other be edited Beatitudes, but it's praying for enemies. Check and see you guys in the back there when I my glasses on.

It's giving a hardships to God. Showing Mercy to others because God has shown Mercy to us. It's morning over our sin. But Allowing God to renew our minds.

I think that pursuing righteousness is worship. Especially when we feel we've got nothing left, right?

I think it's so important to have this this mindset in this this lifestyle of what worship is because when were being persecuted when we're going through being insulted all these different things we can get so distracted, but we forget that that how we react matters because we might have kids right we might have family living with us. Auto jobs In our family in our marriages every aspect of our lives, right? We got somebody watching us.

Pursuing righteousness is an act of worship to God. It's to rejoice and be glad in and out of every season. Though we may never understand it.

And I think it's manufacturer

I think it's it's awesome. This this morning I was talking with Jay and he came up to me and he said that he had a scan and and in the cancer is not not there. And many of us have been praying for Jay. MattyB spray for many others It is just an amazing thing right to see that God still answers prayer.

So let's continue to pray and lift up all those around us if you think that prayer we just exhausted ourselves. I think we have a lot more to go. Right. We want to be a Praying Church. The next few weeks months ahead. We're going to talk about prayer in the sermon of the mount. And it's going to be good. God is before us he is with us. He's ahead of us. We often forget this when we enter we're come. out of our trials and Percy

Cuz we're just on verse we just finished first 12. Did you know that the sermon amount is is to Chapters?

Wave height a long way on this this mount. But our journey is not over. We've got a long way to go. In fact, I guess in one sense. Our journey has just begun. These beatitude serve as a starting point for the rest of the sermon of the mount and hope that you guys are ready for this this journey. It's going to be challenging. It's going to be exciting. You might be saying to me I've had to deal with. Morning, I've had to deal with being Meek and humble. I've had a deal with being a peacemaker. I've had to deal with being poor in spirit. I've had to deal with righteousness and the persecution and now you're saying we're not even close to being done.

You better hold on getting you Bibles.

Who's going to win something?

And we got fired we got about 5 minutes, but I actually want to I want to open this up and you don't we may have nobody speak in this fine. But I want to know has anybody learned anything true gods were the Beatitudes over these past few weeks in your life. And if that's you imma give you a second, you don't have to talk a long time 10 20 seconds, whatever. I just want you to share it and think it is. It is a testimony to the rest of the people.

Okay. I'll talk to you waiting for go.

Actually forgot which one is after the other bag of Cheetos after the one that says blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted. I am mrs. Sunny before I got chased put down that message. And so the next Sunday, I was looking around and the Beatitudes and that one white card. So I read that verse on the top of the bulletin and I was thinking back to the last year-and-a-half with them different lawsuits that I had in my wife.

Different people in different places, but I didn't know that my mom was going to play.

So I'm just come back from the East Coast where we I lost my mother and so God has shown himself to me over and over again with that verse in so many ways and with different people that I met and a whole lot of a 4 minute blessing having a difficult time and some ways and and I know how to explain it. This is so many stories, but it's just that he's just mad at me when I need it as much comfort by God. He just it was just so there and I'm just so thankful. And anyway, so I don't know. It's just Nate how God uses the word at different times are alive and all kinds of special ways. So very grateful.

Let's get somebody pray for Sally right now for the road ahead after losing her mom and who's going to pray for not the pastor?

Just don't jump up out once. All right. Thanks.

I want to talk next yet anyway, so Our dear heavenly father. We just pray that at this time you'll wrap your precious arms around her sister Sally.

when times of morning come you are especially close and near because our hearts are stripped bare. And yet you are there. And I thank you so much for that.

And I know that you'll be with her and you'll give her strength and comfort. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. I just I just wanted to talk about. How does the pure in heart and The Peacemaker both of those verses really spoke to me? Because I always want peace. I always want everything to be okay and peaceful. And it goes back to his my heart right with God. Am I the one that not just the enforcer but actually finding peace from him to move forward and make that ripple effect to the people that his lies I touch and so that was very convicting and very beautiful to to this remind me of that.

Name is Forrest and I learned in the last few weeks at a life without God is meaningless. It's it's horrible. I was doing things. You know that the Bible says you shouldn't do and stuff like that and I felt like At Heart I lost heart and I lost God and it's just been a horrible pain for me. And I'm I'm working on getting him back and I'm working on that. So I that's what I learned in the past 3 weeks. Kissimmee police reports this morning we can pray for Forest. You're perfect. You're perfect.

Air Force

Father God lord, we just looked up for us and we just pray for him. I thank you Lord that.

You've lit a spark in him that you've given him guidance and direction to turn around on the path you was on and just come running towards you Lord, and I just thank you for that. And it's in everyone of us has been there to time in our lives Lord and each and every one of us has fallen and it's each and everyone of us continues to just do things that your word says we're not supposed to do. The Lord that's why your God and we're not in so we thank you for that. We thank you for who you are. We thank you for who you are in Forest life, and we just pray Lord that you would come alongside him. Bring others along side of him to help him stay on this path and stay running towards you at Lourdes that so grateful for him because My Heart Lord is just blessed by his words, and we just love you Lord and just too. Just thank you Lord that he's here in your holy name.

see what testimony does in the church if you if you have if you feel like God's trying to work through life and say something. Don't be afraid to share because it could be a blessing other people.

Let's pray together.

father we just really we just going to send scratch the surface of

Of The Sermon on the Mount Lord, we've got so much further to go. But I just think of topics like salt and light and divorce an eye for an eye in adultery murder.

fulfillment of the law

God Is So Many topics in the summer in the mount that it's it's I think it's more scared forever because it's it's reality and it's so close. to realize that we forget that actually is real life Lord that that these topics that that you wrote about many many years ago Lord our Are still happening today because of sin?

Will help us not to get focused on the scent aspect to help us to to look past it to realize that you you offered a way when there was no way.

Lord in ourselves and in our flesh. There's nothing good in US

So what if there's so many in this room this morning that has not given their heart to you or does not put their trust in you I pray that today they would they would acknowledge that you are God.

That you sent your son your only begotten son that whoever believes in him will not die but have everlasting life. that believes that you died for them. On that cross that they can come to you with their sin. Ask for forgiveness to repent and turn away.
